Movember at ClearCorrect

These days, a clean-shaven guy coming in to apply for a job here at ClearCorrect might feel a bit out of place. Lately, it’s looking a little like all our male staff are working round the clock, with no time to shave. Some of our guys are looking like they’re growing playoff beards.

But there’s an explanation for this aside from how work and personal grooming habits collide: it’s Movember.

To raise awareness for men’s health issues, each of our guys started this month clean-shaven and vowed not to shave again until November 30th, when they’ll unveil some of the greatest facial hair ever witnessed. In just a couple weeks we’ll post some photos so that you can be the judge: which ClearCorrector will have the fullest, most manly, most creative moustache of all? Interview with Dr. Dale Brant

Dr. Dale Brant was kind enough to sit down with us earlier this month and chat for a few minutes about ClearCorrect.

We shot this video with our Nikon D3100 digital SLR instead of our usual professional video camera, and we were really impressed with how it turned out.

Tech Tip: How Phase Zero will get your patients started faster

We've got something really cool to announce this week. We're very excited about this, and we're pretty sure you'll like it too.

We call it Phase Zero™.

The number one request we get from doctors is "improve your turnaround time."

We get it. In the past couple of weeks, we've made some procedural changes that have already significantly reduced the time it takes to generate a treatment setup.

But Phase Zero will take things to a whole new level. As the name suggests, Phase Zero is a set of aligners that we'll ship you before Phase 1. In fact, we're aiming to get them to you around the same time that you receive your treatment setup, so you can fit the aligners on your patient and show them a 3D model of their teeth at the same appointment.

You may be wondering--how can we send you a set of aligners if the treatment hasn't been planned or approved yet?

Here's the secret: Phase Zero is based on your patient's current dentition. They're passive aligners, designed to retain your patients' teeth. Because we aren't moving the teeth, we can produce the aligners much faster. It should also be much easier for your patients to get acclimated to wearing aligners with less pressure being applied to their teeth.

Phase Zero also gives you an early chance to test the accuracy of our 3D model. If the passive aligners don't fit, you can take new impressions while your patient is still in the office, and we can get the problem fixed faster.

We'll still be producing Phase 1 on our regular schedule, so this shouldn't slow down your treatment at all. And there's no additional charge for this, either--going forward, we plan for this to become a standard part of our treatment.

Now, we should be clear: this is a brand-new feature that we're still testing out. As usual, we'll be rolling it out gradually to work out any kinks. We can't guarantee that every case will get a Phase Zero during this testing period. If it doesn't work out, we might even drop the idea altogether. (That's probably not likely, but the lawyers like it when we cover our bases.)

We sent out our first batch of Phase Zero aligners on Monday, and we've been shipping more out all week. If you have received a set, please call or email your account rep to let us know what you think. Your feedback is especially valuable in the early stages of a new feature like this.

New dental models

ClearCorrect has always included models for each aligner that we send out. This is one of the big advantages of ClearCorrect over the competition. We've gotten feedback that those models are a little inconvenient to use on some thermoforming machines, because you have to grind off the corners of the square base.

Today we're pleased to announce that we're starting a transition to the next generation of dental models. Our new models will be higher-resolution, so they're more accurate and should produce better-fitting aligners. We've also eliminated the square base, so it will be easier for you to make models in your office. Best of all, the case and step number will be engraved directly onto the bottom of each model.

We're switching over slowly to monitor any issues, but some providers should start to see the new models in their cases in the coming weeks. Here's what they look like:

ClearCorrect introduces Compliance Enforcers™

HOUSTON, TX—Clear aligner therapy has straightened the teeth of thousands of patients, easily and invisibly. The primary factor limiting successful treatment has always been patient compliance. If aligners aren't worn for at least 22 hours per day, the osteoclastic activity which reshapes the gums stops, and the teeth won't move as intended.

To combat this issue, ClearCorrect has always offered doctors a popular feature known as Compliance Checkpoints™. By checking whether certain teeth are touching at various points during the treatment, dentists can determine whether or not patients have been wearing their aligners.

Now ClearCorrect is taking patient compliance management to the next level with an exciting new aligner feature, available exclusively from ClearCorrect: Compliance Enforcers™.

Compliance Enforcers™ are tiny RFID-enabled microchips embedded within each clear aligner. Each microchip is equipped with an array of sensors designed to detect temperature, ambient light, and certain enzymes in the patient's saliva. These sensors enable the aligner to detect whether it's in the patient's mouth, in an aligner case, or under the passenger seat of a 1983 Subaru BRAT.

If the aligner detects that it has been outside of the mouth for over one hour in any 24-hour period, it begins to emit a periodic warning tone, which increases in volume and frequency as the two-hour mark approaches. At two hours, the aligner enters GuilTrip™ mode. A tiny speaker embedded in the chip plays a prerecorded lecture from the patient's dentist about the importance of aligner maintenance, followed by the sound of a mother crying because her crooked-toothed child will never find a spouse.

If the aligner is not reinserted into the mouth within three hours, it activates its unique Active Recovery™ feature. The aligner transmits a signal to a transponder chip installed in one of the patient's fillings. Using an advanced nanocomposite material to generate electricity from the patient's saliva, the transponder charges the other fillings in the mouth with a powerful electromagnetic field. The magnetic intensity is gradually increased, until it is strong enough to attract the Compliance Enforcer™ in the patient's aligner.

Drawn by the magnetic force, the aligner will then slide out of its hiding place and up the patient's body, attempting to reinsert itself in the patient's mouth. If all of that sounds unsanitary, don't worry. Compliance Enforcers™ are equipped with micro-nozzles which spray a concentrated antimicrobial foam onto the aligner when it begins to enter the proximity of the patient's face.

Please note that other metal objects may also be attracted by the extremely powerful electromagnetic force, so we recommend that all patients using Compliance Enforcers™ stay away from knives, metal buttons, zippers, keys, jewelry, and electronic devices during their treatment.

We're moving!

The big day has finally arrived. We're moving our headquarters and production to a larger facility, starting this Friday, March 18.

How much larger is it? Right now, all of our offices and manufacturing facilities are squeezed into about 8,000 square feet. It's kind of like those sample apartments at IKEA, without all the nifty Scandinavian furniture.

Our new two-story headquarters covers 3.5 acres, giving us about seven times as much office and manufacturing space. (Our entire current facility would fit into one of our three new manufacturing bays.) We'll have plenty of room to hire more account reps and expand our production capabilities, which we expect will lead to quicker, better, more reliable service.

Fortunately, we've just added a new feature to ClearComm: now you can print your own shipping labels online! The days of calling and waiting for an emailed or faxed label are over. Log on to to print free, updated shipping labels the next time you submit a case. If you've never used ClearComm before, we'll be sending you your username and password soon.

If you've recently shipped packages to our old address (5200 Mitchelldale St.), don't worry. We'll continue to receive packages sent with the old labels for a while to come, but in the future, you'll get the quickest results by shipping to our new address.

Our phone number remains the same (888-331-3323), although some extensions may change at the new facility. We will be closed on Friday, but we should be back up and running next Monday morning. We can't tell you how excited we are to finally be making this move.
